Commendation of Moore’s Ford Bridge Reenactors

WHEREAS, This comes to commend you for your courageous and activist participation in the reenactment of the lynching massacre of the Malcoms and the Dorseys at the Moore’s Ford Bridge, July 25, 1946; and

WHEREAS, Your service as a re-enactor on July 25, 2005, was a significant contribution to keeping the movement alive as we continue to pursue justice through arrests and prosecution of the guilty; and

WHEREAS, We salute the following persons: Bobby Howard, Johnny Ray Ansley, Jerry Ansley, Jerry Ansley, Jr., Lee Norris Atkinson, Bruce Smith, Randy Ansley, Benny Kelly, Jr., Keith Christian, Sandra Glover, Hayward Crawford, Ben Reed, Sr., Ben Reed, Jr., Rosie and Grady Crowley, Rachel Howard, Melvin Parks, Jr., Waymond Mundy; and

WHEREAS, This reenactment will lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of those participating and/or obstructing justice in the deaths of Mr. George and Mae Dorsey, and Mr. Roger and Dorothy Malcolm; and

WHEREAS, It is widely believed that these women were pregnant when they were lynched on July 25, 1946, at the Moore’s Ford Bridge on the Walton County and Oconee County line, a few miles outside of Monroe, Georgia, and was confirmed by Mr. Dan Young that Dorothy Malcom was at least seven months pregnant; and

WHEREAS, A mob of Ku Klux Klansmen (with law enforcement participation) captured and murdered these African-Americans because they dared to act and be different; and

WHEREAS, This horrendous tragedy is a stain on the soul of our state and nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED , that the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials (GABEO) honors your dedication, service and activism in bringing attention to the last public mass lynching in America; and
