GABEO Remembers Yvonne Ingram-Ephraim (Special Resolution)

Resolution

Celebrating the Life of Yvonne Ingram-Ephraim
April 11, 2007

WHEREAS, Our beloved sister, The Honorable Yvonne Ingram-Ephraim, was a dedicated member of GABEO for many years, giving exemplary service as secretary of our organization; and

WHEREAS, Yvonne was the devoted wife and partner in ministry of the Reverend Michael G. Ephraim, Sr. of the Sixth Episcopal District, Augusta, Georgia Conference, Wrens-Vidalia District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Lofton Circuit A.M.E. Church family; and

WHEREAS, She was a strong servant of the Lord and was actively involved in the civic, religious, and charitable affairs in her community, giving her time, talents, and energy to improving the quality of life for citizens in her city, county and the state of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Yvonne was a committed educator and public servant, serving as councilwoman and mayor pro tempore of the City of Sparta; and

WHEREAS, Her memberships included the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, serving as assistant secretary and secretary. She was a member of the National League of Cities, the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the National Rainbow/Push Coalition, and the Georgia Association of Educators and the National Education Association, and

WHEREAS, Yvonne’s active participation in GABEO played a tremendous role in helping the organization develop a strong agenda of activism throughout the state of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, She possessed and shared her organizational and leadership talents, her keen sense of vision, and maintained an acute sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of her community, which earned her the respect and admiration of her constituents, colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, Yvonne will be deeply missed by all of us in the GABEO family, as well as others who knew and loved her.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials (GABEO) honors the memory of Yvonne Ingram-Ephraim for her life, legacy and her many contributions in the fields of education, government and civil rights, and her life-long commitment to uplifting the Body of Christ.
